Best PSX Stocks Under PKR 100 for Small Investors 2026
Every new PSX investor asks the same question: what can I actually buy with PKR 25,000 or PKR 50,000? The temptation is to hunt for the cheapest listed price — stocks under PKR 20 look accessible. Most are traps.
This piece is a data-driven filter for building a small-investor portfolio in the PKR 20-100 price range: what to include, what to categorically avoid, and which sectors have the highest concentration of legitimate small-cap opportunities on Pakistan Stock Exchange.
The trap: low price does not mean cheap
"Cheap" is a valuation concept, not a price concept. A stock at PKR 8 with negative earnings is expensive. A stock at PKR 850 with a P/E of 4 is cheap. Price per share is a function of share count — companies with billions of shares outstanding trade at low nominal prices even when the market cap is huge.
Rule 1: stop looking at price per share as a value signal. Look at P/E ratio, price-to-book, dividend yield, and revenue growth instead. Those tell you if a stock is actually cheap.
The four filters for a legitimate small-cap PSX stock
Any stock in the PKR 20-100 range worth putting real money into should pass all four:
Filter 1: Minimum daily liquidity
Average daily volume above 200,000 shares, or Average daily traded value above PKR 5 million
Below that, you can't get in or out cleanly. Bid-ask spreads eat 2-3% of your position on entry and another 2-3% on exit. On small positions, the round-trip cost alone can wipe out any gain.
Stocks that don't clear this bar aren't investments — they're auctions where you're one of five bidders and the market maker is always the fastest.
Filter 2: Positive trailing earnings
Trailing 12-month EPS > 0 (company is profitable), or on a clear path to profitability with revenue growth
Companies burning cash with no path to profit can go to zero. And on PSX many small-caps have been burning cash for years — there's no venture capital cushion to bail them out. If a company reports losses for 3+ consecutive quarters and revenue is not growing, exclude it.
Filter 3: Reasonable balance sheet
Debt-to-equity below 1.5x (2.0x for financial companies), and positive operating cash flow in the trailing year
Small companies with heavy debt and negative cash flow are one recession away from bankruptcy. Look for companies with either low leverage or genuinely productive assets that support the debt they carry.
Filter 4: Real business, not a shell
Genuine operating revenue, not just "other income" or intercompany transactions. A recognizable product or service. Public disclosure of quarterly financials that make sense.
PSX has plenty of shell companies and companies with unclear business models. If you can't explain what the company does in one sentence, don't invest.
Sectors with legitimate PKR 20-100 opportunities
After filtering, small-cap opportunities on PSX cluster in a handful of sectors:
Cement & Building Materials (mid-tier)
Second-tier cement companies often trade in the PKR 50-150 range. Names like Cherat Cement, Kohat Cement, Pioneer Cement historically fit here. Cyclical — buy during input-cost normalization phases, hold through demand recovery cycles.
Fertilizer & Agri (smaller players)
Engro Fertilizer at times, Fatima Fertilizer, some mid-tier agri names. Dividend yields are often meaningful — look for consistent payers.
Insurance
Many insurance holding companies trade below PKR 100. Boring compounders — book-value growth of 10-15% annually with dividend on top. Not exciting but not traps.
Sugar & Refined Sugar Mills
Cyclical, seasonal, sensitive to government policy on sugar prices and export bans. Requires understanding of the crushing season and how policy shifts move margins. High reward when positioned correctly.
Auto Parts (specific names)
Beyond the big assemblers (which trade well above PKR 100), several auto parts companies fit the profile. Import substitution and localization tailwinds support several of these names.
Textiles (composite)
Easier to find in the sub-PKR 100 range than exporters. Verify that the company is on the right side of the composite vs pure-spinning divide — composites with value-added exports have very different economics than commodity spinners.
Sectors to be cautious in
Very small cap financials — many small non-bank finance companies (NBFCs, leasing) look attractive on P/E but carry hidden risk on loan books.
Micro-cap technology — real Pakistani tech listings are limited to a few names. Anything else with "tech" in the name and a sub-PKR 50 price often lacks the fundamentals to justify the label.
Delisted-adjacent names — stocks that have been suspended or under regulatory scrutiny in the past 2 years should be avoided unless you have specific expertise in special situations.
A sample screening exercise
Here's how you'd construct a five-stock small-investor portfolio using our platform:
- Go to the PSX Invest opportunity feed and filter by AI signal (BUY only)
- Filter further by symbols currently trading between PKR 20 and PKR 100 (use the watchlist to organize)
- Cross-check each candidate against the four filters above using the platform's fundamentals overlay
- Distribute across at least 3 different sectors — no more than 25% of your portfolio in any one
- Set individual stop-losses at 8-10% below entry to protect against small-cap volatility
A reasonable starter allocation for PKR 50,000 might look like:
- 1 cement mid-tier: PKR 10,000 (~20%)
- 1 fertilizer smaller player: PKR 10,000 (~20%)
- 1 insurance holding: PKR 10,000 (~20%)
- 1 auto parts: PKR 10,000 (~20%)
- 1 textile composite: PKR 10,000 (~20%)
That gives you sector diversification, real businesses, meaningful position sizes (each PKR 10,000 gets 100-500 shares depending on price — enough to move on the market cleanly).
Common small-investor mistakes
Mistake 1: Chasing PKR 5-15 penny stocks
Most sub-PKR 20 stocks on PSX are illiquid, unprofitable, or both. The lottery-ticket mentality ("if it goes from 8 to 15 that's 87% gain!") ignores the reality that most of these stocks either stay flat for years or slowly drift to zero. Real returns come from concentrated positions in profitable companies, not scattered bets on cheap tickers.
Mistake 2: Ignoring dividend yield
Many PSX small-caps pay 8-12% dividend yields. That's 100 bps or more of annual return before any capital appreciation. For a small investor, that yield is meaningful — it also signals the company is actually cash-generative.
Mistake 3: Treating volatility as opportunity
Small-cap PSX stocks can swing 5-10% in a day on modest volume. That volatility is a risk to manage, not a feature to exploit. Position size to the volatility, not to the price.
Mistake 4: All-in on a single "multi-bagger" tip
Every WhatsApp finance group has a story about a friend who 5x'd a PKR 22 stock. Selection bias — you don't hear about the 20 friends who lost 60% on similar tips. Diversify or accept you're gambling.
Using PSX Invest for small-investor screening
Our platform's opportunity feed is designed to surface AI-scored setups on PSX stocks across all price ranges. For sub-PKR 100 screening:
- Add candidate small-caps to your watchlist
- Use the analysis page to check current AI signal, technical indicators, and fundamental metrics side-by-side
- The opportunity feed shows recent BUY/SELL signals across your watchlist stocks so you don't miss timely setups
- Because the AI applies the same rigor to a PKR 40 stock as a PKR 400 one, you're not disadvantaged by focusing on small caps
Bottom line for small investors
Good small-cap PSX investing is about selection, not price. A basket of 4-6 legitimate mid-cap companies (PKR 20-100 range) that pass the four filters can deliver returns that beat holding index-heavy blue chips — with the trade-off of higher volatility.
Don't confuse cheap price with cheap value. And avoid the sub-PKR 20 lottery-ticket zone entirely.
